Good Country People

In the story, smashing Country People, Mr. Pointer, a purportedly fair natured Bible salesman, is easily a depiction of the guiltless evil in literature. Hes corrupt, lying teras and in the end he hurts our main character, Hulga, in the harshest stimulated way. What the story is all about, its theme, is when pride of intelligence (crippled Hulga) versus the corruptness of the forgiving heart (Pointer).
Hulga, a girl whose leg was literally blown off, now living life with a fix leg. Yet, she is to a fault proud of herself and in some degrees, feels that she is better than the some other good country masses. The day she meets Manly Pointer, the Bible salesman. She knows that on that points something about him. In the story the two other female characters, Mrs. Hopewell and Mrs. Freeman, clearly depict that many people the like Pointer are definitely good country people. But, of course this isnt the case. The ending of the story itself is a spell point for Hulga and Pointer.
The ending caught me by surprise. Just the title solely(predicate) leads you, the reader, to believe that we are dealing with are actual Good Country People. Manley Pointer makes us believe that he is a simple Bible salesman, and Hulga believes him. When Pointer wants to be alone with Hulga, certain things about this mysterious man are revealed.



This goes to give us that some arent what they appear to be. When theyre alone, direct her on into what could be a sexual encounter catches us by surprise. But, Pointer wants to take her fake leg as a prize.
For Manley to take her leg, for his own enjoyment, is very strange. It makes you wonder if he has a thing for fake body parts. He says to Hulga, Ive gotten a lot of interesting things. One time I got a womans glass eye this way. So, simply this wasnt the first time for him. For all we know, he keeps fake arms, eyes, and legs as trophies.
