Giles Corey Shows Courage in The Crucible
The Crucible by Arthur Miller is found on the capital of Oregon Witch Trials in 1692 that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem trials where based on a group of girls who lies and says they were upchuck under witchery by the devil. These accusations ar not true but the girls and many other towns people in Salem take place in these lies. This was a time of untruth, injustice, and revenge. As a result people show courage in this play. One person who specifically shows courage is Giles Corey.

Giles Corey is an honorable and regardful man. He believes in what is right and not whats wrong. He is a very courageous man. He first shows us courage in act I when he speaks expose against Rev. Parris needing more property. Rev Parris ask that he be given sixsome more pounds for wood along with the additional 60 six pounds his contract has already given him. Giles Corey says You are allowed six pound a year to your wood, Mr. Parris. (Miller 1112). Giles tells Mr. Parris you are not getting no more money you acquire enough money already. Giles stands up to Mr. Parris and by that he shows courage by stand up up to him.

Later on Giles Coreys wife Martha is arrested on the charge of witchery. Giles is upset.



Along with his wife Elizabeth Proctor and Rebecca Nurse are arrested. Giles Corey along with Mr. Proctor, and Mr. Nurse go to the courthouse the next morning to be hear by Judge Danforth. They all came to save their wives and polish off their good names. Giles says, in the court room They be verbalize lies about my wife sir. (Miller 1138) Judge Danforth ask does he have evidence to prove his wife is innocent. Giles has a disposition signed. He says, The proof is there. I have it from an honest man who heard Putnam say it! The day his daughter cried out on Jacobs, he said shed given him a fair office of land.
